What Is Compression Molding?

Compression molding is a manufacturing process in which two heated molds are used to compress a usually preheated quantity of molding material (often called a charge)
into a desired shape.

The Pros of Our Compression Molds?

1. Cost-Effective

If you need to produce simple, mostly flat, large parts, compression molding is often the most cost effective
manufacturing method. Some curves and grooves in the design are acceptable, but achieving extreme angles and depth of stretch through compression molding can be a challenge. Tooling costs are affordable due to the lower pressures,
and the tooling usually lasts a long time without warping or requiring replacement. To offset the costs associated with the long cycle times of compression molding, manufacturers can use molds with multiple cavities to produce
multiple parts in the same cycle.

2. Produces Strong Parts

Compression molding produces solid parts without flow and braiding lines. The structural stability of compression
molded parts is very high. Compression molding can also be used to make parts using composite materials, which means that durable, corrosion-resistant parts and products can be easily produced by this method.

3. Flexibility in Design

Compression molding is also a great manufacturing tool for engineers and product developers. For example,
low-cost compression molding can be used for prototyping. Simple compression molds can be designed in computer-aided design (CAD) software, 3D printed, and then formed into various types of materials using a simple desktop
vise. You will find an example of how OXO can be used for prototyping later in this article.
